WHITEHORSE - Less than 24 hours before the start of this year’s hunting season, the Liberal government announced that all permits drawn for Finlayson caribou in the Ross River area were cancelled due to concerns about population. The Liberals did not consult with hunters or the Yukon Fish and Game Association prior to this last-minute announcement, nor have they provided any clear scientific evidence suggesting that this move was required.

WHITEHORSE – Amid rising concerns from industry, the Official Opposition is calling on the Yukon Liberal Government to extend their consultation on proposed changes to the Quartz Mining Act to November 30, 2018.

WHITEHORSE – After over a year of lobbying from the Official Opposition and chronic inaction from the Minister of Environment, the Yukon Liberal Government has finally agreed to launch an independent audit on the Yukon Permit Hunt Authorization lottery system.

WHITEHORSE – Recent issues with the Yukon Permit Hunt Authorization System are further reason that the Minister must hold an independent audit of the lottery system.

WHITEHORSE – Documents obtained by the CBC indicate that the Yukon Liberals will be celebrating Canada Day this year by increasing the price of alcohol for Yukoners. One local business has indicated that this new price hike will cost them at least $3000/month.

WHITEHORSE – On Thursday May 24, 2018 the Federal Liberal Government used their majority on the Standing Committee on Public Safety and National Security to vote down a motion calling two Yukon witnesses to testify on Bill C-71, An Act to amend certain Acts and Regulation in relation to firearms.

WHITEHORSE – The Official Opposition is asking the Premier to protect Yukoners from potential negative effects from the Government of Alberta’s Bill 12, Preserving Canada’s Economic Prosperity Act. The legislation allows the Alberta government to restrict or stop the export of fuel from the province.

WHITEHORSE – After telling Yukoners last month that they would provide details on what carbon tax rebates will look like for municipalities at the 2018 Annual General Meeting of the Association of Yukon Communities (AYC), the Liberals provided no new information at the conference.

WHITEHORSE - The Official Opposition is calling on the Yukon Liberal government to provide a status update on 7 infrastructure funding applications totaling approximately $470 million that have been submitted to the federal government as part of the National Trade Corridors Fund.

WHITEHORSE – The Official Opposition would like to commend Cystic Fibrosis Canada - Yukon Chapter for the work that they’ve done over the past five years to raise money for Cystic Fibrosis research and therapy for Yukoners.
