Porter was first elected as MLA for Southern Lakes to the 36th Legislative Assembly in the general election on November 3, 2025. He currently serves as a Government Private Member, as well as Deputy Chair of Committee of the Whole. He also sits on numerous committees within the Legislative Assembly.

As a Kaska member of the Liard First Nation and the Daylu Dena Council born and raised in Watson Lake, Yukon, Mr. Porter’s work is informed by long-standing ties to northern communities and hands-on experience across both public service and First Nations governance.

Over the past decade, Tyler has worked in frontline emergency response and territorial service delivery, as well as in senior leadership roles supporting community development and infrastructure. His experience includes operational roles within Yukon Emergency Medical Services, service as an Initial Attack crewmember with Yukon Wildland Fire Management, and leadership positions in community recreation, health services, capital and infrastructure planning, and economic development.

Most recently, he served as Director of Business Development for Yukon First Nations Wildfire, working closely with First Nations governments, territorial partners, and industry to advance workforce development, emergency response capacity, and community-driven economic initiatives. These combined experiences have provided him with a practical understanding of how policy, funding, and partnerships translate into real outcomes at the community level.

As MLA, Tyler is committed to building respectful government-to-government relationships and to advancing priorities that strengthen community capacity, public safety, economic opportunity, and long-term well-being across the Southern Lakes region.
