Yukon Legislative Assembly Calls Electrical Corporations as Witnesses

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE                                                                  October 7, 2026

WHITEHORSE – On Wednesday, the Yukon Legislative Assembly passed an amendment brought forward by the Yukon Party Caucus to call witnesses from ATCO Electric Yukon, the Yukon Energy Corporation, and the Yukon Development Corporation to answer questions from MLAs in the Legislative Assembly.

Motion 161 passed as amended, and reads as follows:

THAT witnesses from ATCO Electric Yukon, the Yukon Energy Corporation, and Yukon Development Corporation appear before Committee of the Whole during the 2026 Fall Sitting to answer questions regarding electrical infrastructure and services.

“We believe that all three corporations involved in the electricity system should appear at the Legislature to answer questions regarding electrical infrastructure and services,” said MLA Ted Laking who put forward the amendment to have all three corporations appear. “This will allow MLAs to ask serious questions about the stability of our electricity system, the limitations that we have in generating enough electricity to meet expected peak demand, electricity rates, reliability, infrastructure, investment and the future of our electrical system.”
