WHITEHORSE - Today the Yukon Liberal government voted against a Yukon Party amendment that would have prioritized Yukon developers in the potential sale of residential building lots.
The motion up for debate read:
THAT this House urges the Government of Yukon to investigate the option of selling land to allow for the private development of residential building lots.
With the amendment proposed by the Official Opposition, the motion would read:
THAT this House urges the Government of Yukon to investigate the option of selling land
to Yukon developers to allow for the private development of residential building lots.
The Liberals used their majority to vote down this amendment supporting Yukon developers.
“Our amendment today was meant to signal government support for Yukon developers, particularly on an issue that could grow the economy and put local builders and contractors to work,” stated Scott Kent, Official Opposition House Leader. “During the election the Liberals promised they would take good ideas from all parties so we are left wondering why they would vote against supporting Yukon developers. Was it because they don’t think prioritizing Yukon developers is a good idea?”
