WHITEHORSE – Today the Official Opposition gained unanimous consent for an amendment to a government motion committing the government to consult with Yukoners on the potential to include vaping under the Smoke-Free Places Act.
The motion as amended reads:
THAT this House urges the Government of Yukon to consider amendments to the Smoke-Free Places Act to include vaping following consultations with appropriate experts, stakeholders and Yukon residents.
“We are pleased to see this motion go forward with our amendments which we hope will result in meaningful consultations with Yukoners regarding these potential amendments to the Smoke-Free Places Act,” said Patti McLeod, Official Opposition Health Critic. “Vaporizers are quickly becoming a popular tool for smokers and with the recent legalization of cannabis across Canada, their presence will only increase. Nonetheless, it is important that the government take the time to speak with and receive input from Yukoners to ensure we move forward with the best changes possible.”
