WHITEHORSE – Today Yukon MLAs unanimously passed a motion that will commit the government to investigate the possibility of eliminating Daylight Saving Time in Yukon. The debate occurred this afternoon during Opposition Motion Day. The Liberals amended the motion to remove mention of consultation.
Motion No. 251, moved by Kluane MLA Wade Istchenko and amended by the Government, now reads:
THAT this House urges the Government of Yukon to investigate the possible elimination of daylight saving time in Yukon.
“Although I am disappointed that the Liberals removed any requirement to consult Yukoners, I am happy to see this motion pass unanimously in the Legislature,” stated Istchenko. “This is an issue many Yukoners are interested in and I hope that the government does eventually consult on it. We will be interested to know how Yukoners will be given the opportunity to provide formal input on this initiative. We also look forward to the government reporting back to Yukoners on the results in a timely manner.”
“Again, we thank all members of the Assembly for their support for this Motion, this is just another example of how all three parties can work together.” added Istchenko.
