WHITEHORSE – In recognition of the 100th Anniversary of the Battle of Vimy Ridge on April 9th, Leader of the Official Opposition Stacey Hassard released the following statement:
“On April 9th, 1917, Canadian soldiers launched an advance on the German-held Vimy Ridge. After four days of intense battle, and despite massive casualties, the Canadian soldiers accomplished one of the Allied Forces’ single greatest victories and took control of Vimy Ridge.
“This battle not only marked a key turning point in the war, but also represented one of the first major steps towards Canada becoming an equal nation within the British Commonwealth.
“As this weekend marks the 100th Anniversary of Vimy Ridge, we remember and honour all those who participated and sacrificed their lives fighting for peace.
“Further, we thank all of our veterans as well as the active forces for their continued service to all Canadians.”
