“The Yukon Party Official Opposition is requesting that the Liberal government hold a media briefing to provide an update on the current flood situation throughout the territory.

“Reports from communities indicate that the water levels are quickly changing, and Yukoners need clear leadership and communication on flood prevention and relief efforts, along with updates on recent emergency evacuation alerts.

“The Yukon Party first shared recommendations for flood preparation in February and requested better communications and coordination as part of this year’s response. A briefing at this time would help ensure Yukoners understand what efforts are planned or underway, and outline current and future risk areas.

“Residents with properties that may be at risk should receive as much notice as possible and Yukoners should be updated on any potential requests for volunteers or assistance.”
