WHITEHORSE - Today, the Yukon Liberal government tabled Bill 25, Act to Amend the Legislative Assembly Act (2018) – which will give the Premier a pay raise.
This pay bump comes after the Premier has claimed he wants to save taxpayers money and has directed each department to cut up to 2% of their budgets.
“At a time when the Liberal government is telling Yukoners they need to tighten their belts and look for cuts of up to 2% at Health and Social Services and Education, it’s inappropriate for the Premier to give himself a raise,” said Brad Cathers, Official Opposition Finance Critic. “The Official Opposition will not be supporting any pay increases for elected officials.”
The Official Opposition will continue to focus on priorities we hear from Yukoners including improving the medical travel program, reducing wait times for cataract surgery and other procedures, and investing in education.
