Official Opposition Brings Forward Urgent Motion to Stand Up for Small Businesses

WHITEHORSE – Today, before Question Period, the Official Opposition will bring forward an urgent motion to stand up for small businesses, farmers, placer miners, and medical practitioners against the federal government’s unfair tax changes.

The motion calls on the federal Liberal government to extend the length of the consultation beyond the originally planned 75 days. With unanimous support this motion can be debated and passed today.

The urgency of this motion is driven by the fact that the federal Liberal government is currently proposing to implement one of the largest changes to the tax system in decades, and only offering 75 days for consultation in the middle of summer when many Canadians are busy working, running their businesses, or on vacation.

Last week the Yukon and Whitehorse Chambers of Commerce hosted a public meeting that saw over 100 members of the business community attend to express concern over the significant impacts these changes will have on them.
