“My colleagues and I are saddened to hear of the passing of former Yukon Liberal Party leader Jack Cable.

WHITEHORSE – The Spring Sitting of the Yukon Legislative Assembly has ended. The sitting, only 11 days in length, was the third shortest spring sitting in the last 20 years. The only sittings that were shorter were the spring sitting of 2020 that was shortened by the pandemic, and the earlier spring sitting of March 2021 that was cut short by a snap election.

“The Yukon Party Official Opposition joins those across the country who are horrified at the discovery of the remains of 215 children on the traditional territory of the Tk'emlúps te Secwépemc First Nation near Kamloops.

WHITEHORSE – Traffic safety is important throughout the territory. The main road in some rural communities is the high-traffic Alaska Highway.

WHITEHORSE – The Yukon T1D Support Network is set to partner in the development of a territory-wide Type 1 Diabetes Strategy. Yukon Party MLA Scott Kent introduced a motion creating such a strategy during Opposition Private Members Day. The motion that passed unanimously calls for completion of the strategy by September 2022.

WHITEHORSE – On Wednesday, the Yukon Party Official Opposition introduced a motion during Opposition Private Members Day that would have the Standing Committee on Statutory Instruments review the Child Care Act as well as all corresponding regulations.

WHITEHORSE – Yukoners are getting a strong indication of how unaccountable a Liberal-NDP coalition will be, as the two parties have agreed behind closed doors to a very short 11-day sitting of the Legislative Assembly.

WHITEHORSE – Currie Dixon, Leader of the Official Opposition, announced that the Yukon Party will launch a public consultation on the behind-closed-doors rent control policy that has created uncertainty and hardship for both tenants and landlords. Yukon Party MLAs have heard extensively from concerned landlords who are fearing for both their short and long-term financial situations and from tenants who fear they will be displaced or have already experienced dramatic rent increases.
