WHITEHORSE – According to the 2019-2020 Budget documents, the Yukon Liberal Government has cut the territory’s highway maintenance budget by $2.5 million this fiscal year.
In the 2018-19 Budget, $44,276,000 was budgeted for highway maintenance.
In the 2019-20 Budget, $41,715,000 was budgeted for highway maintenance.
This is a cut of $2,522,000.
“Budgeting is about priorities, and while the Liberals have found money to give the Premier a raise and increase the budget for the Liberal political office, they have unfortunately cut funding for highway maintenance and safety,” said Scott Kent, Official Opposition House Leader. “The Yukon Party Official Opposition is concerned about these Liberal cuts and we are calling on the government to immediately reverse them.”
