Government Set To Break Key Election Promise

WHITEHORSE – The Official Opposition is seeking answers from the government with regards to their election promise to ensure any tenders for projects that are seasonally dependent be tendered no later than March of each year. As tomorrow is the last day of March the government’s self-imposed deadline is fast approaching.

“The new government promised to make it easier for local contractors to bid and prepare for the summer construction season by posting tenders no later than March,” mentioned Stacey Hassard, Leader of the Official Opposition. “Instead of providing certainty to the industry it looks as if the government is on the verge of breaking a key election promise.”

“The government has had lots of time to get ready as it has been over 140 days since the election,” Hassard added. “The Yukon contracting community is ready to get to work and it’s time for the government to do the same.”

The Official Opposition will continue to hold the government to account for the promises they made to Yukoners during the election.
